Pack your credit cards and head to the cosmopolitan global fashion capital of Milan. Alternatively immerse yourself in the city’s layers of culture. The imposing Duomo cathedral, the Gothic church of Santa Maria delle Grazie - home of De Vinci’s Last Supper - and Pinacoteca di Brera - home to various works by Italian masters, including Raphael’s Marriage of the Virgin - are all musts. After Milan take the train to Bergamo, and the bewitching Città Alta. Its cobbled streets, Venetian outer walls, and its hilltop location make this district quintessentially Northern Italian. The area is reachable by funicular and hosts the beautiful Bergamo Cathedral. Elsewhere there’s the majestic Santa Maria Maggiore and the enchanting façade of the Colleoni Chapel.

Milan is perhaps Italy's most sophisticated and modern city, a thriving hub for business, art and fashion. The city's defining feature is the Duomo, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world, and if that wasn't enough the refectory of the Santa Maria delle Grazie church is home to one of Leonardo Da Vinci's most famous paintings, 'The Last Supper'. Shop in the designer boutiques of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II arcades or marvel at the opulence of the La Scala opera house, Milan's history, style and culture won't disappoint.

BERGAMO

Day 3 - 4

The medieval hilltop city of Bergamo is one of Lombardy's finest, with a backdrop of the Alps and a skyline of tall bell towers and a domed cathedral that enchantingly soar into the misty sky above. The upper Città Alta district is surrounded by ancient city walls, and art galleries and museums line the narrow streets that lead to the arcaded Piazza Vecchia and the Contarini fountain. The modern, bustling Città Bassa area is a stark contrast from the atmosphere above, and provides excellent transport links to Milan and the surroundings.
