Spain’s three biggest cities offer a wealth of differing – but quintessentially Spanish - urban experiences. In Madrid check out Museo del Prado, the Royal Palace of Madrid and the main plaza, Puerta del Sol. In Valencia we suggest wandering through the old town before heading to Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Spain's national museum of 20th-century art. The futuristic City of Arts and Sciences is a fantastic example of innovative architecture, while a stroll along the former riverbed Turia park is a great way to spend an afternoon. Finally, in Barcelona, Sagrada Familia, Parque Güell, Las Ramblas and Paseo de Gracia are all “must see” attractions.

There is hardly any other city that presents the Spanish lifestyle as compactly as the Spanish capital. It combines economy and trade, culture and art with the typical elements of the Spanish way of life. Madrid offers world-class galleries, a wide variety of culinary delights, a legendary nightlife and beautiful architecture. The historic centre of Madrid between the Palace and the Retiro recreation park is relatively well laid out and is an ideal starting point for exploring the city.

The multicultural and playful city of Barcelona, founded more than 2,000 years ago, is the capital of Catalonia and combines elements of Roman times, medieval quarters, examples of Modernist style and 20th-century avant-garde movements. While for many people the Sagrada Família by Antoni Gaudí is Barcelona's architectural symbol par excellence, the port city offers many other architectural and cultural attractions and a vibrant nightlife.
