The Yucatan Peninsula hosts some of the best beach locations in Central America. Cancun combines a modern, vibrant nightlife with pristine sand and turquoise waters. Playa Delfines is perhaps the most popular, and easily accessible from several resorts. For more tranquillity hop over to Islas Mujeres and Playa Norte. The Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, just south of Tulum, is a UNESCO world heritage site. Not easily accessible and with few amenities it remains an unspoilt paradise, backdropped by dense jungle and archaeological sites. Just off the Caribbean coast is Cozumel Island, a haven for marine diversity. Snorkelling and diving among the underwater gardens and the Museo Subacuático de Arte’s submerged sculptures is a must.

COZUMEL

Day 3 - 6

i

Cozumel is a Caribbean island just off the Yucatán Peninsula in southeastern Mexico. It has great diving, nice people, safe streets, and prices comparable to other Mexican tourist destinations. The diving is the main draw to Cozumel; if you prefer white sandy beaches then other nearby destinations would be a better bet (e.g., Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Isla Mujeres.) It was badly battered in 2005 by Hurricane Wilma, but, with few exceptions, has been completely repaired.
