Venice is most famous for its iconic network of canals and waterways, navigable by it’s equally iconic gondolas. Of the 400 Venetian bridges the most famous and decorative is perhaps Ponte di Rialto, the only one to house several shops in its structuring. Aside from this the island is home to numerous art institutions, not least the Venice Biennale which attracts artists and dealers from across the world. Verona is perhaps most famous as the setting for William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet the trappings of which are scattered across the town. The open-air Arena di Verona hosts regular opera performances and the enchanting maze at Giardino Giusti is also well worth a visit. Verona is particularly good for traditional wine bars and bottegas.
