Mossel Bay is a small harbour town situated on the Garden Route in the Western Cape. A favourite coastal and holiday destination, it has over the years developed into a town of unhurried hospitality, complementing the natural beauty and rich cultural history of the District of Eden. It was here that the first Europeans set foot on southern African shores – commemorated at the Da Gama Museum Complex in the town-centre. Washed by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, Mossel Bay offers sandy beaches stretching into the horizon, whale watching in season (June – mid November), water sport and extreme adventures. The Bay of Attraction, as Mossel Bay is often referred to, is also a paradise for any shopper hunting for local art and craft or maritime objects, and a hub for good entertainment and exquisite dining on the Garden Route.

A popular stop on South Africa’s scenic Garden Route, Knysna is a picturesque town nestled between mountains and bays, surrounded by a stunning blue lagoon and indigenous green forests which extend into the Tsitsikamma National Park. Knysna is also home to a thriving arts scene, and hosts various festivals throughout the year. Perhaps the town’s most popular event is its 10 day Oyster festival held each summer, drawing in both local and international visitors to celebrate the local delicacy.

WILDERNESS

Wilderness is a coastal village situated in the Western Cape province in South Africa. It is set between the Kaaimans River and the Goukama Nature Reserve in the heart of the Garden Route, bordered by the Outeniqua Mountains and swept by the Indian Ocean. Renowned for its tranquil sea, seemingly endless beaches and natural lakes and lagoons, Wilderness has become a sought-after international holiday resort. This charming paradise is a great spot for water-sport enthusiasts, but also offers a fantastic wildlife variety, particularly birds, and is the ideal location from which to enjoy rejuvenating hikes, hang-gliding, paragliding, horse-riding, or leisurely scenic drives. Wilderness is also home of many craftsmen and women in the area, whose work is for sale at the weekly and monthly craft markets. Just outside Wilderness, two breathtaking viewing points offer magnificent views of the ocean for miles – namely the 'Map of Africa Viewpoint' and 'Dolphin Point'. A photographic hotspot is the Kaaimans River Bridge, over which the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe train used to pass on its journey between George and Knysna.

A small coastal resort lined with white sand beaches, crystal-clear waters and surrounded by mountains, it’s easy to see why Plettenberg Bay is one of the most popular holiday spots for locals. The Bay is also known as being one of the best places for whale and dolphin watching in the world, and offers some of the most breathtaking coastline and indigenous forest in South Africa.
