Picking up your car in San Francisco, head north across the Golden Gate Bridge towards Sonoma. A city located on the southern end of the scenic Napa Valley, its namesake city may be recognised by many for its famous wine. Known as one of the best wine regions in the world, Napa is home to vast chateau-like vineyards which can only be compared with those in France, and the city itself also offers good shops and restaurants along its riverfront promenade. Located around three kilometres from the entrance to Yosemite National Park, El Portal is a perfect base for visits to this stunning natural wonder.
